BILLABONG’S “GO BLUE – SAVE THE CORAL REEF” PLANTATION PROGRAM HAS SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED 577 PIECES OF CORAL
The “Go Blue – Save The Coral Reef” programme was set up in April 2013 by Billabong to show its support towards ocean conservation and EARTH DAY. This unique initiative is one that gives Billabong customers the opportunity to adopt, donate and plant their own corals in Tanjung Kotal, West Bali.
To date, Billabong and its customers have successfully helped the “Go Blue Mission” by adopting and replanting a total of 577 pieces of coral.
Studies found by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) shows that over 70% of Indonesia’s coral reefs have been damaged. 77 regions across Indonesia have been assessed and only 30% found of the archipelago’s coral reefs are in good condition. Reef damage is caused by a variety of factors including destructive fishing practices, overfishing, pollution, coral mining, climate change and sedimentation.
Billabong acknowledges and thanks the Coral Reef Community, Turtur Dive and Earth Hour Denpasar WWF organisation, Waka Shorea Resort and of course, its loyal customers, for playing such an integral part in conserving our surround reefs and ocean inhabitants.
